Experience the wild heart of Tasmania with Tasmanian Photography Tours owner, Ben Wilkinson, in his signature landscape photography tour. A private tour for adventurers and photography enthusiasts alike, you’ll hike into Tasmania’s untamed wilderness, capturing dramatic landscapes, ancient forests and the island’s rich and diverse flora.
Ben will lead you into the wild places of Tasmania’s West Coast to see amazing examples of what the ancient Gondwana landscapes must have looked like. You will stand on the spot where famous Tasmanian track cutter, T.B. Moore first gazed out upon the West Coast and gain a feeling of what the old miners and piners of the region must have endured on this historic and immersive wilderness photography experience.
There tours are not for the faint of heart. It is the West Coast of Tasmania in Winter so it will be cold, wet and muddy. You must be prepared to carry your own gear uphill, walk in all weather conditions for 3-5 hours each day over 3 or 4 days. You will get dirty and tired.
Never fear, we will ensure your safety and that you come prepared with the appropriate clothing, food and bedding to ensure your comfort. The chances are you won’t want to go home.
Each day concludes with a dry, warm bed and a hearty meal beside the fire in an old mountain cabin. There’s no electricity, no phone signal and it is fantastic. If you love nature and you're not afraid of getting a little breathless in the quest for stunning images, these tours will blow your mind.

Accommodation
- Bunk beds – 1 x single bed per person
- The bunks are in one cabin, you will have your own space but there’s not much privacy. However, there’s loads of respect
- The toilet is a long drop, but it has a great view ;)
- Clients must bring their own sleeping bag and pillow
What You Will Learn
- How to capture amazing images in the forest
- Composition will be a huge focus, learn how to tell a story with your photography
- If dopamine greens, old trees, moss, plant life and nature are your thing, you’re in for a treat
- Equipment, camera settings and techniques used for landscape photography in wild areas
- Shooting in low light, using the light and shadows to your advantage
- How to safely navigate the forest and wild places
What You Will Need
This workshop has minimum standards for equipment. If you do not own some of these items, let us know and we will help you as some can be hired.
- A high-performance, lightweight, compact sleeping bag with a comfort temperature rating of around 0°C
- High performance waterproof jacket & waterproof pants
- A hiking pack to carry your equipment to and from the hut
- A sturdy camera bag for day trips into wet areas
- 2 x sets of thermal pants and tops – 1 for the day and 1 for the night
- Sturdy, ankle high walking boots in good condition
- Waterproof socks, gloves and beanie
- Gaiters – sturdy knee high variety
- Head-torch
- Avenza Maps or Gaia GPS APP on your phone
- Warm evening wear for the hut – think puffer jacket, warm socks etc
- A sense of adventure, humour and a love of the wild places
Inclusions / Expressions of Interest
All Inclusive of:
- Three or four nights accommodation in a single room mountain hut
- Three camp meals per day excluding breakfast day 1 and dinner day 3/ 4
- Private transfers to the Hut and return from Hobart in our spacious, luxury rated 12 seater
- Experienced local guides who will take you into the wild places and bring you home safely

Client safety is our priority so we have the following conditions:
- These tours require strong levels of fitness and mobility and as such they’re available by expression of interest only
- Departure is at the discretion of Tasmanian Photography Tour Staff. In the event of extreme weather events and bushwalker warnings, tours will not depart and you will receive a full refund. Notification will be given 7 days prior to departure
- Some hiking experience is essential
- Minimum numbers are required for departure
- Minimum equipment levels are required, we will discuss this with you once your expression of interest is received
