The West Coast is a land of contrasts—home to World Heritage-listed wilderness, ancient rainforests, alpine plains, wild rivers, and windswept shores. It’s a place where raw beauty meets the lasting scars of industry. Here, towering waterfalls cascade through moss-covered forests, tannin-stained rivers carve through deep valleys, and giant sand dunes shift with the wind. This is Tasmania at its wildest.

I’m Ben Wilkinson, owner of Tasmanian Photography Tours, and I’ll be your guide on this immersive photography workshop. Over several days, we’ll explore the untamed landscapes of the West Coast, capturing scenes that echo the ancient Gondwana past. From old mining relics to lush, mossy forests teeming with fungi and unique flora, you’ll have the opportunity to refine your skills in some of Tasmania’s most photogenic locations.

Based in the heart of Queenstown, our days will be spent out in the field, chasing light and perfecting composition. In the evenings, we’ll return for hearty meals and with a bit of luck, we’ll have clear skies for astrophotography. If there's time, ill even deliver a hands-on editing sessions where I’ll guide you through my post-processing techniques in Adobe Lightroom Classic and Photoshop.

If you love nature and landscape photography, this workshop is for you. Come and experience the wild beauty of Tasmania’s West Coast—where every turn holds another story waiting to be captured.

Your Instructor - Ben Wilkinson

My grandfather grew up in Zeehan on Tasmania’s rugged West Coast. His father was a miner, and some of my earliest memories are of driving up there in his old HR Holden, spending days visiting his brothers—tough old West Coasters, men from an era long past. If only I could sit and listen to their stories now.

My love of the outdoors began the moment I first crawled onto the grass of my grandfather’s farm on the foothills of Kunanyi/Mt Wellington in Fern Tree. Born with a sense of adventure and love of the outdoors I have always enjoyed spending time in Tasmania’s wild places.

In 2012, I became serious about my passion for photography and started my own brand under the name, Wilkography. A few years later I was contracted by Nikon as an instructor to deliver ‘Nikon School’ in Tasmania.

Allow me to guide you to breathtaking destinations, showcasing the state’s untamed beauty while ensuring your journey is both comfortable and safe. Along the way, I’ll share my wealth of knowledge to help you capture unforgettable moments, leaving you with a memory card brimming with cherished images and lasting memories.
